The Dandelion

Dandelion (2)

The Dandelion ablaze in radiant yellow
crown above the crenellated leaves
claims his kingly space across the lawn
defiantly invades, lights up our meadows

even if his time is short

see that mane of grey, a shroud which lifts
to claim new gardens for his princely sons
he casts his crown in dynasties
which spread abroad like stars.

False Dandelions taking over the field up the road. There are at least 9 kinds of false dandelion – these here look like Hypochaeris radicata.
